Some people are like Pirandello, with one or more characters following them incessantly, looking for life on the page. For others, it means traveling, researching, or for the really lucky, going deep inside and finding a story and voice so unique, that even a swampy backland can become a place of popular dreams…
I recently started reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s ‘Vivir para Contarla,’ his autobiography. I hadn’t read him for years, and found myself having to mentally prepare myself for his beautiful rambling; he takes you from the past to the future, to thoughts and philosophizing in a single (and very long) sentence.
If you love writing or reading, this is a great story of how he finally found the perfect subject by going back to his past. Just be prepared for his beautiful rambling 🙂
