It’s a strange thing, writing in Dystopia. Today marks four months of working furiously to finish my novel, which I feel will be more relevant now to a wider audience given the capture of Maduro in January.
These first months of 2026 have also been an exercise in collective cognitive dissonance. Tyrants attack human rights, the world economy, schools and homes with impunity, while the safeguards placed after WWII sit back, powerless.
There are embers below the gloom. In all of this, I look to the kindness in my community, the bravery of those who stand up against oppression and the creatives that take those burnt pieces and turn them into art.
The latter is my inspiration and keeps me typing away, one day at a time.
